Pastificio Gentile

Pastificio Gentile

The best Gragnano pasta, sauces and preserves made following traditional methods and the most prestigious extra-virgin olive oil make of Gentile an Italian excellence.

History

Founded in 1876, Pastificio Gentile is a factory that made history in the city of Gragnano.

In 1919 an engineer from Torre Annunziata, Cirillo, realized that it was time to find a way to dry pasta other than having it hanging outside. He devised an artificial method with the aim of reproducing the same process inside factories. This is how the innovative “Cirillo method” was born: drying times are reduced and they don’t  depend on sun and good weather any more.

The Zampino family currently uses the same method to produce pasta: they know well that no machine can replace a master “pastaio”. In 2010, Gragnano pasta was awarded the PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) status.

Over the years the company created more ranges:

  • San Nicola dei Miri: artisanal fruit and vegetable preserves, manufactured following traditional secret family methods.
  • Antico Frantoio dei Grani Rossi: the best selections of Ravece and Ortice olives to create high quality extra-virgin olive oil.

Area of production

Gragnano is a small city at the feet of Monti Lattari, in the Naples district. It is known as the City of Pasta: people from Gragnano have been producing pasta since the 14th century. At that time every family had something to do with the pasta industry.
